Immediately set the tone for your space with the RIGHT coffee table. This shouldn’t be a hand-me-down, worn-out, forgotten piece of furniture you kick your feet up on. Can’t stress enough how important it is to have a tray on your table. Not only to protect it from rings and spills – but to confine the crap! Remotes, candles, (my favorite is this Jo Malone one) knick-knacks – including a tray in your coffee table set-up creates order for your stuff AND your eyeballs, making the whole scene more aesthetically pleasing. Don’t be afraid to stack a little catch-all tray on top of a larger one to create even more visual interest and intrigue!

Whether you actually read it or just want to display it for show, a coffee table book showcases YOUR interests and personality in your home. It’s a great way to incorporate minimal color and character. Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie both have great selections of quirky coffee table books, but you can usually find them on Amazon Prime. Greenery is an essential piece to your coffee table set-up. Whether you go faux or commit to the real deal, your plant will need a cute home. Every season, Target typically launches 2 or 3 great new pottery options that are affordable and stylish. Make sure if your plant IS real, the pot doesn’t have a hole in the bottom (you don’t want muddy water all over your finery!) and if you go faux, don’t skimp $$$. There’s nothing worse than a bad fake plant!

Coasters are ALWAYS necessary to protect from rings – but ESPECIALLY essential if you have an ottoman-style coffee table that doesn’t have a completely flat surface. Offering up coasters on your coffee table set-up makes your guests feel more at home, and your husband more accountable.
