I kept busy this week for the One Room Challenge by ordering all of the pieces for the nursery and sourcing a few additional accessories (NOT previously featured!) to round out the space. I also rolled up my sleeves and got painting! Read on for more on the new items I can’t wait to style in baby boy’s nursery and some painting updates and tips.

If you ever want to make a DRAMATIC change in your space without breaking the bank, paint your trim black. I mean – what a statement! I went with Onyx by Benjamin Moore (which is featured throughout my home) in a semi-gloss finish. Although I struggled with the decision on what to do with the windows (they are white vinyl). There are plenty of DIYs online about painting vinyl windows but the problem is, my panes are between the two pieces of glass. Since I’m unable to paint to panes, I decided to leave the vinyl windows inside the trim white – and I’m feeling surprisingly OK about my decision. It makes the room feel modern and crisp.

I’ve never come across a color like this before. It isn’t stark WHITE…. but it isn’t GREY. It’s not to cool… but it’s not too warm. There are no ugly undertones in Origami White. It pops against white trim and pops against black. It feels modern yet classic – and inviting. I painted one whole wall with two coats so I could see how the color shows up in the (awful) lighting in this little room before I settle on the rust color I’m going to use as an accent. I’m loving the outcome!

I didn’t want to get to the end of all the heavy lifting of the ORC before I started sourcing and ordering the little things. The final touches that make a room feel DONE. Since I’m recycling so much from Hart’s Nursery, it really is these little details that is going to make the room feel  unique to my second son (dang I want to say his name!). I ordered blackout curtain panels in a crisp white from Walmart – just $12.99 each! (they had really great reviews, FYI) and gold Umbra Curtain Rods. You already know about the Terra Cotta Zebra Planter I found at Target… but I have another Target treasure to add to the mix as well – this amazing task lamp. And of course, I needed the PERFECT side table to set it on… Anthropologie to the rescue! (even scored it for 25% off!) I’m so excited about how these little details are coming together. Now it’s time for some more painting!
