Qwell we’ve been talking and talking about the bathroom renovation… but technically, we are redoing  and creating three new rooms: The bathroom, the closet – and the laundry room! Since the renovation is moving so quickly (much, much more quickly than originally anticipated) we had to switch gears and start thinking all about the laundry room!

Not going to lie, this design has turned into one of my favorites I’ve ever done. Again, this space needs to flow from the rest of our house (read: black, white & gold!) but in order to avoid being redundant, I did incorporate a few new elements. My tile and fixture choices complement the shapes and materials of the other tile in our house but with a new take. Take a look at the complete layout, mood board, inspiration and design rationale below!

Prior to this renovation, the washer and dryer were tucked into a little cupboard above the stairs.  It was awkward and hard to access the upper cabinets, so we just avoided them. In the new layout, we are busting down the wall and bringing the washer and dryer OUT of the cabinet! We were also able to salvage one of the cabinets that was in the empty storage room  adjacent to the laundry room and are adding a big old sink to it. Floating shelves will complete the room! This laundry room will definitely be small, but functional. See below for some of our inspiration for the space!

If you’ve seen this image before, it’s probably because it went viral on pinterest. I mean, how genius is this hidden laundry storage by Finecraft Contractors? Since we had some uppers we salvaged – we are going to bump them forward to be in line with the washer and dryer and fit trim and doors around them to create a flush and tailored look. Don’t worry – we have ventilation! The vent will still be functional, and all of the cabinetry will just be on the front half of the washer and dryer (leaving the back wiiiiiide open). I’ll be posting lots of updates about this project, because we are doing it ourselves!

You all know I love me a good black accent wall. I’ve been looking for a way to incorporate black vertical shiplap into our house for sometime now, but haven’t found the right place or project. I fell in love with a patterned porcelain cement-look-alike tile when we were shopping for our bathroom tile, and when I saw Kaylee from House of Soss’ laundry room, I was sold! I’m planning a shiplap accent wall AND a patterned tile accent wall. A little extra? Maybe. So am I though, so it’s all good.

When Kate Chipinski revealed her mostly-DIY-kitchen makeover, she basically broke instagram. What stood out to me the most was the black farmhouse sink! I am so excited we are finally going to have a sink in our laundry room, and even more excited to say that thanks to Kate’s inspiration, that sink is going to be a black farmhouse one. I found a great 24″ option with a large single basin on Amazon for almost half the price of others floating around the internet!

So, here it is! The design, My FAVORITE design. Really focused on thoughtful and impactful finishes and features instead of a lot of THINGS to make this design pop. Dare I say… I’m excited to do laundry? All of the items I selected for this room are linked below (minus the vertical shiplap and the shaker door, which will be DIY’s :))

Clockwise from top left:

  • Gold Flushmount Light, $132. Ironically, my sister Michaela helped me find this light – she swears she didn’t send it to me because of the name, but I have my doubts.
  • Fresh & Clean Wall Art, $33. I’ve stalked this sign on instagram for far too long. I’m making it mine.
  • Glass Canister,  $15. Probably will end up getting 3-4 of these to store laundry necessities on the floating shelves.
  • Patterned Cement Look Tile, $5.50/sq ft. This isn’t the EXACT tile I’m getting… because I found a very similar one in-stock on clearance at a local tile shop and fell in love! I’m so into the cement-look for the NON-cement price-point.
  • Rectangular Rattan Basket, $36. Did you know Zara has a home website? With amazingly cute stuff? Well, now you know.
  • Caesarstone “Rugged Cement” Quartz, $$$ TBD. Recently, when looking into cement countertops, I stumbled on this product. And I’m so so SO excited about the durability of quartz with the look of cement.
  • Gold Pull Down Faucet, $118. When you find an industrial-glam, pull-down gold faucet at this price-point, you don’t hesitate on that “add to cart”.
  • Gold Shelf Brackets, $16/pair. World Market sells mix and match brackets and shelves. We have some other ones – they are GREAT especially for the price. We plan on buying these gold brackets and making our own (longer) shelves, but they also sell black shelves FYI.
  • Black Farmhouse Sink, $619. This one is 24″, which is the max size we can have in the space. I love the look and I’m so excited to have a sink!
  • Gold Bin Pulls, $9-$12. I love the refined look of these pulls. The clean lines and geometric shape will look perfect in this space.
  • Carrara Marble Hex Pennytile, $10/sq foot. Yep, we’re carrying this look through from the bathroom for the flooring in the laundry room. Simple and classic.
  • Rattan Laundry Basket, $140. Probably my biggest splurge in the space. But I couldn’t resist the details of this one. Zara Home for the win!
