The guest suite above our garage is finally coming together, and boy does it look different from my original design. Not because I didn’t love my initial plans, but more that – a different plan started taking shape as the pieces came together. From strategic curtain placement to paint and vanity changes to the perfect vintage rug – read on for all of the updates.
Strategic Curtain Placement
I wouldn’t prefer a bed in front of the windows here, but to maximize the tallest point of the ceiling and fit a king bed, I pretty much had no choice. Why it works here – the bed is rattan so you can see the light coming in the window coming through the caning. But the window itself posed a greater problem for me, because it is actually 2 fairly small windows. I played a little visual trick by hanging 3 curtain panels across the space to make the window appear like one larger window! I still need a few more curtain rings but so far I’m loving the effect.
The rug set the tone.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: I stole the original rug I purchased for this space for Hart’s room. Something wasn’t sitting right. With a blank slate of White Walls (pearly white by SW) and new LVP floors (Loyal Friend by Provenza), I really got thinking about what rug would help set the tone for this cozy guest suite in the treetops. And immediately, my mind went to vintage. I absolutely love including one-of-a-kind and unique pieces in my home whenever I get the change. But yes, sourcing the perfect vintage rug can be a BIT overwhelming. So, since I’ve had such great luck with Revival rugs in my home in the past in Smith and Merritt’s rooms, revival was my first stop. The large selection of rugs and search parameters are next level – truly, you can refine by size, color, price, style – making your rug search SO easy. Once I saw this brown, black, maroon and pink beauty my scroll STOPPED! Sorry, It’s one of a kind and I snatched it up – but lucky for you, I did round up a few of my other Revival favorites for you below – and don’t forget to use code 10OFF-CRAVENHAVEN for 10% off your order!

More ch-ch-ch-changes…
I swapped out the tiny vanity for a larger dark green fluted one I found on facebook marketplace. I decided the kitchenette cabinets need to be the same taupe (kingsport grey) as my interior doors. And I may or may not gave a few more tricks up my sleeve to complete the space. So STICK AROUND this week, you’re not going to want to miss all of the details!
