When you’ve worked so hard on nailing a specific aesthetic for your home, putting together a kid space can be tough. You want it to feel like THEM – but still feel cohesive with the rest of your home. You want it to be FUNCTIONAL – but also fun. And you certainly want it to be cozy, but also filled with affordable finds (because, um, they’re KIDS!) I partnered with Walmart to bring you my go-to tips for curating a kids space, pulling products from their new fall lines together to finally complete Hart’s room!
Play with Patterns
I love to mix patterns in kid spaces, while keeping the color palette consistent with the rest of the home. It feels playful and refined all at once! The black and white tree toile wallpaper was already up in the room, and I knew I wanted it to remain. By pairing it with an large-scale geometric print rug, it feels more modern and masculine. This rug though! It’s from Walmart’s exclusive Queer Eye line, and has modern décor you’ll LOVE. This rug was one of the designs just in time for fall. I couldn’t love it more paired with the wallpaper – and I topped the whole thing off with the perfect plaid pillows to really mix things up. The black, white and neutral theme is the same one found throughout my home, yet it feels fun and youthful. It feels like Hart! (Pssst – Hart’s bed is long sold out, but I linked a similar faux leather bed I found on Walmart here!)
Encourage Good Sleep
Creating the right sleeping environment is just as important (more important?) than the aesthetics when it comes to toddlers. For me, this means keeping all of the toys out of the bedroom. Yes – ALL of the toys. The stuffed animals Hart sleeps with and a few books are the only exceptions. (and how cute do those books look displayed on the ladder?!) But removing distractions is only half the battle – I’ve found that a light weighted blanket helps Hart’s nighttime thrashing SO much, and this new one I picked up with a faux fur cover is so cozy and cute! I love this sound machine because it isn’t an eyesore, and we control it from our phones – we even set a special light to turn on that let’s Hart know when it’s time to get out of bed. Gamechanger!
Use Sensible Storage
Do your kids like to mess with everything? Mine do. Open and close drawers, boxes, doors – I have noticed that sometimes storage solutions can become distractions. So I swapped out bedside tables with drawers for a simple parsons side table with clean lines. Nothing to mess with, but still a place for Hart to keep his water. The chic storage crates I found were part of Walmart’s Fall Look Book – they’re perfect for storing Hart’s bedtime buddies, and I love how they play off the Southwest print of the rug.

I have accepted monetary compensation and free product or services from Walmart in exchange for my endorsement of Walmart. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
